 +Dr. Marta Via is a postdoctoral researcher in the Atmospheric Composition Group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), supported by a Juan de la Cierva fellowship. She earned her BSc in Physics (2013–2017) and an MSc in Meteorology (2017–2018) from the University of Barcelona (Spain). She completed her PhD at IDAEA-CSIC (2019–2023), focusing on particulate matter composition, particularly the source apportionment of organic aerosol. She then joined the SMASH MSCA COFUND program (2024–2026) at the University of Nova Gorica (Slovenia), where she developed machine learning methods for advanced source apportionment of particulate matter. She also participated in several field campaigns in the highly polluted western Balkans to identify major PM sources and worked on harmonizing elemental carbon measurements obtained through different measurement principles. Currently, she is working on evaluating air quality models using measurements, with a focus on the sources contributing to organic aerosol and elemental carbon.

She holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) – Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (2019-2014) and an MSc in Applied Mathematical Sciences with Climate Change Impacts Modeling from the Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh (2019). Her PhD entitled "Implementation, Development and Evaluation of the Gas-phase Chemistry within the Global/Regional NMMB/BSC Chemical Transport Model (NMMB/BSC-CTM, now MONARCH) (2009-2014) " was funded by the FPI-UPC grant. Her previous postdoctoral research was focused on quantifying the importance of reactive halogens and very-short-lived halocarbons in the marine atmosphere using the regional model WRF-Chem in the Environmental Department at the University of East Anglia (UEA), and the climate model CAM-Chem in the department of Atmospheric Chemistry and Climate at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). She also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals (ICTA-UAB) studying how green infrastructures (in various forms from peri-urban agriculture to green roofs) impact the urban atmosphere (e.g. humidity, temperature, and air quality) using the WRF and WRF-Chem models coupled with urban canopy models. In parallel, she obtained her MSc degree in Data Science and Engineering from the National University of Distance Education (UNED) in 2025.
