+On 11 February 2021, coinciding with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and motivated by the United Nations statistic that less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women, Bianca Mezzina sent an email raising concerns about the gender situation within the department. This message acted as a catalyst, opening a broader conversation about gender balance, representation, and working conditions in the department.
+Following this initial call to action, a group of motivated members began organizing to better understand the situation and to identify concrete actions that could lead to meaningful change. The first steps focused on gathering data, creating spaces for discussion, and sharing results transparently with the department.
