  • National Geographic AI for Earth Innovation (https://www.nationalgeographic.org/funding-opportunities/grants/what-we-fund/ai-earth-innovation/) : Extreme weather events, rising sea levels, higher global temperatures, and increased ocean acidity threaten human health, infrastructure, and the natural systems we rely on for life itself. Proposed work should create generalizable, scalable tools that use AI for conservation in at least one of the following core areas: climate cjhange, agriculture, water. Call related also to Microsoft AI for Earth (see below). Possible amounts : from 5 to 100k$ over one year. Deadline : 01/10/2019
  • Microsoft AI for Earth (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/ai/ai-for-earth?activetab=pivot1:primaryr6) : AI for Earth awards grants to projects that use artificial intelligence to address four critical areas that are vital for building a sustainable future : climate, agriculture, biodiversity and water. Grants are for (1) data labelling services and (2) Azure compute credits. Deadline 4 times a year. Possible amounts : 5, 10 or 15 k$
  • VESRI (https://schmidtfutures.com/our-work/scientific-knowledge/vesri/) : proposals that use advances in observations and computational science to target current weaknesses in climate models, 2-3 projects granted this year (2019), more expected in the coming years. Amounts : $500k-$2M/year. Deadline : expression of interest to be sent by 15/09/2019 and full proposals by 01/12/2019.
  • AI4EU “AI Prototypes” call (https://www.ai4eu.eu/ai4eu-open-calls) : AI4EU will distribute €3 million equity-free among individuals, start-ups and SMEs. Under this call, AI4EU will select 25 individuals who could be researchers, students or developers per open call. Beneficiaries can receive to €30,000 and a 4-month support program to develop prototypes based on AI resources. Two open calls will be launched, addressing 5 different challenges that will be owned by industrial partners, corporates or other EU projects. The first AI prototype open call will be launched in Q1 2020. NB : There is also a “Tech transfer” call program.
