The atmospheric initial conditions are generated with OpenIFS  using the FULLPOS system which is a physical interpolation that takes into account the model definitions. The initial conditions are currently generated from ERA5 reanalysis. The members (e.g. fc1-fc9) are generated from the official member fc0, by applying reproducible random perturbations of the 3D temperature field.
