The Barcelona Supercomputing Center is the national supercomputing center in Spain. It specializes in High Performance Computing, and its mission is two-fold: to provide infrastructure and computing services to European scientists and to generate knowledge and technology transfer to business and society. The center has four different departments: Computer Sciences, Life Sciences, Computational Applications in Science and Engineering and Earth Sciences. The Earth Sciences department is constituted by four groups: Computational Earth Sciences, Atmospheric Composition, Climate Predictions and Earth System Services. Research in the department focuses in atmospheric emissions, air quality, mineral dust transport, global and regional climate modelling and prediction, and climate services for users.
