Difference in the values of the sea ice area, extent and volume calculated with siasiesiv
I've compared the old values of the experiment i019 (/esnas/exp/ecearth/i019/monthly_mean/ice/sia_Arcticreg1_i019_20051101_fc0-0_200511_230510.nc, for example, but also for the SIE and SIV) with the new post-processed ones (/esnas/exp/ecearth/i019/monthly_mean/siarean_f6h). I've noticed differences in the values of the three variables for the total Arctic. Please, apply the scales corrections I proposed in issue #37 (closed) for comparison. Here I give examples for each of the variables:
-
SIA: NEW: 4491.551 6431.787 8948.947 11102.673 11754.662 OLD: 476436.3 677892.7 941659.5 1158493.2 1223477.8
-
SIE: NEW: 7099.585 9906.203 12329.350 13870.562 14046.633 OLD: 5676.283 7826.420 10467.113 12587.575 12871.392
-
SIV: NEW: 397441.2 543399.6 788472.2 1063139.8 1295314.2 1506161.0 OLD: 3710.473 5114.359 7441.776 10106.440 12372.651 14388.725
These differences don't just appear for the total Arctic, but for other regions (I didn't check all), but for the Barents Sea for example and the SIA, check the differences:
- NEW: 1.012285e+03 4.233126e+03 9.561957e+03 1.038252e+04 1.833020e+04
- OLD: 9.991338e+00 4.241157e+01 9.548270e+01 1.035512e+02 1.833932e+02
Remember again about the scale factor. These differences must be due to the way of calculating the SIA, SIE and SIV, or because the tool uses different masks for the regions. Here (/home/Earth/rcruzgar/Desktop/Experiments/area_data/latest_versions/sie_XX-region.R) you have a script in which I calculate the sea ice extent for any region, in this case for the NSIDC data, taking into account the area of each grid cell (/home/Earth/rcruzgar//Desktop/Experiments/area_data/latest_versions/areas_NSIDC.nc) that I created some time ago.
