Calculation of Sea Ice Volume from Sea Ice Thickness
Hi @jvegas
Recently we have noticed (@jacosta @emoreno @xlevine) that there are big differences between the variable "sit" and "sivolu" (experiment a0pe), that match a SIT bias that I couldn't explain. A priori these two variables should represent the same (we still have some doubts about it, and if somebody could explain the real differences it would be perfect).
The differences for one member and date are the following:
This big difference in the Greenland Sea makes the sea ice volume increase and show opposite results than the sea ice area does (negative SIA bias & positive SIV bias).
I am also finding important differences between "sithick" and "sivol" for the experiment a0dc.
For these reasons we think that the sea ice volume (sivoln and sivols) calculated by earthdiagnotics should use "sivolu" (or its equivalent variable name) instead of "sit".
I will keep you updated. You can tag all the people you might think that are affected. @portega @aamaral @dverfail
Cheers.
