Fixes "auto" in templates

Merged dbeltran requested to merge gl-1465-splits-auto-templates into master

This branch fixes #1465 (closed).

The fix consists in:

  • not overwrite the self.splits value each time the update_parameters is called

  • assign the auto_splits to job.splits

  • pending pytest
